It is with a heavy heart that we share with you that one of God’s children has been called home, Leonard R Leos III (known to family and friends as Lenny or Leo) of Cleburne, Texas, who left us on March 17, 2025, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family. Leonard was born to Howard Robledo Leos Sr. and Teresa Zamarripa Leos on February 1, 1970, in Amarillo.
A Rosary will be held on Thursday, May 8, 2025, at 6:00 pm at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church, 4100 South Coulter, Amarillo. The Funeral Mass will be held on Friday, May 9, 2025, at 10:00 am at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church, Amarillo, with Father John Valdez as celebrant.
Leonard was a wonderful son, husband, father, brother, uncle, godfather (Nino), and grandson. He graduated from Amarillo High School in 1988, playing football all 4 years. He went to Texas Tech University and became a member of the Chi Psi fraternity. In between his travels, he met the Love of his life, Yvonne Salazar Bittner. He married Yvonne and helped raise his stepson, Kelvin Bittner. Leonard was a one-of-a-kind guy with an infectious smile that always greeted you. He never met a stranger. By the end of his conversation with you, you were friends.
He was a true animal Lover dedicated to rescuing and caring for neglected pets throughout his life; he opened his home to countless fur babies, providing them with comfort, love, and their forever home.
He started his journeymans as an electrician in the Texas Panhandle, which led him to work across the US, leading him to the Dallas-Fort Worth area. Leonard landed his most favorite place of employment for many years at Six Flags Over Texas in Arlington. His favorite hobby was NASCAR racing, where he volunteered with the Shriners of Fort Worth at the Texas Motor Speedway for many years, working behind the scenes and meeting several fans who became close friends from all parts. Another passion was food and cooking meals, especially barbecues for family and friends, which is where you could find him. Not to mention, a delicious dessert was in hand, also known as a Scooby snack. Leonard was an avid fan of the Pittsburgh Steelers & Texas Tech Red Raiders; he also enjoyed cheering on the Texas Rangers and Dallas Stars.
Leonard is survived by his wife Yvonne Bittner Leos & son Kelvin Bittner; mother Teresa Zamarripa Leos, Amarillo, brother Howard R Leos Jr. (Elizabeth) Houston; 3 sisters Hilary Boley (Lee) Fort Worth; Harriet Alvarado (Jimmie); & Heidi Deal (Johnny) of Amarillo; Grandmother Annie Perez Zamarripa, Aunt Patti Z Ledwig (Tim), Uncles Leonard R Leos Jr. (Richard), Omar Leos Sr., Larry Thomas Leos Sr.(Blanca) all of San Antonio; 7 nieces Jessica Alvarado (Jr), Amber Guerrero, Julia McDonald(Colton) of Amarillo, Avery & DeLaney Boley of Fort Worth, Linda-Teresa & Alejandra Leos of Houston; 1 nephew Joshua Alvarado of Denton; Three great nieces Meah & MaKenzee Alvarado-McDonald, Mykaela Samuels of Amarillo: and three great nephews Isaiah Alvarado The Colonies, Gabriel Alvarado, Bentley Samules of Amarillo.
He was preceded in death by his Heavenly Family: Dad Howard R Leos Sr., Grandparents: Leonard R Leos Sr. & Antonia Leos, Pete Zamarripa; Aunt Yolanda Campos; Uncle Pete Anthony Zamarripa; Cousins Josie Leos, Omar Anthony Leos Jr.
