Lera was born Oct. 30, 1934, to Mart and Edith Hudson. She attended Amarillo High School, graduating in 1953. She then attended Amarillo College, where she obtained her associate's degree in business administration in 1955. She married Donnie Boyd on July 3, 1957. Lera enjoyed a 25 year career as an executive secretary in the Superintendent’s office for the Santa Fe Railroad.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Mart and Edith Hudson; stepmother Nadine Barnes Hudson, twin sister Lela Moss, brother-in-law James Moss, brother Leon Hudson, and a daughter-in-law, Carmen Newbill Boyd.
Lera loved the Lord and loved First Baptist Church where she belonged and served her entire life. Her favorite area of service was in providing meals to grieving families. She also loved serving on the Amarillo High School’s 50th reunion committee. She loved keeping up with her children and grandchildren and diligently wrote annual birthday letters to her grandchildren detailing the activities of that year, until their 18th birthday, never letting the truth stand in the way of a great story.
She is survived by her sons, Eddie Boyd and wife Lisa Damon Boyd; Ernie Boyd and wife Delisa Vaughn Boyd all of Amarillo; grandchildren, Caroline Rogers and husband Drew of Edmond OK; David Boyd and wife Hailee of Dallas; Harrison Boyd and Alexandra Boyd of Amarillo; Chris Damon, Addison Damon Gibson and husband Seth; Ashli Damon Smoot and husband Zack all of Colorado; and one great granddaughter, Charli Wilder Smoot. She is also survived by her cousin Judy Buckley, and sister-in-law Marge Hudson, along with numerous nieces and nephews.
The family thanks the staff and residents of Bivins Pointe and Ware Memorial Care Center for their loving care for Lera for the past 16 months.
