Leslie Waine Boyle “Les”, 81, of Amarillo, passed peacefully on March 22, 2024, surrounded by his family.
The family will receive guests on Tuesday, March 26, 2024, from 5 pm to 6 pm, at Schooler Funeral Home, 4100 S. Georgia. Rosary will begin at 6 pm. Funeral Mass will be held on Wednesday, March 27, 2024, at 10 am at St. Mary’s Catholic Cathedral, 1200 S. Washington, with Rev. Anthony Neusch presiding. Interment with Military Honors by Amarillo Volleys for Veterans will follow in Llano Cemetery East’s Field of Valor.
Les was born in Lyons, Ks, where he lived until he graduated from high school in 1960 and joined the Army. He met his wife Carol in Amarillo, and they married in 1964. During their marriage, Les did 2 tours in Vietnam, 2 tours of Germany, and 1 in Korea, plus numerous stateside assignments. He received the Valorous Unit Award and many other awards while serving in Vietnam. While Les served on his last tour in Germany, he became a clown who entertained German children. He served 20 years in the Army, retiring in 1980.
After retirement, he moved to Amarillo with his family. He worked in the post office for the next 16 years. Les and Carol had five kids. Thankfully, he enjoyed working on cars. Les was active in the Boy Scouts, serving as a troop leader. He was involved in the church as a Eucharist Minister and lector. He loved working on cars and doing woodworking. Les and Carol would have celebrated their 60th anniversary on April 2.
Les leaves behind his wife Carol, daughter Krista and her husband Aaron Reyna of Edmond, OK, Scott and his wife Anita Boyle of Dutton, AL, Michelle and her husband George Samples of Amarillo, TX, His sister Linda and husband Dave Pennington of Shawnee, Ok. He leaves a legacy of 8 grandchildren: Ariana Fanning (husband Brandon), Ariel Corgan (husband Blake), Victoria Boyle, Gage Mayfield Boyle, Madison Boyle, Grant Boyle, Cye Samples, and Caitlin Samples. Great grandchildren Rori Fanning and Declan Fanning. He was preceded in death by 2 of his children, Natalie Boyle and Aaron Boyle, his parents, Fred and Ruby Boyle, and brother Terry Boyle.
