Lou Ellen Skipworth, 94, formerly of Amarillo, passed peacefully on June 4, 2023, in Edmond, Oklahoma.

Graveside services will be held on Tuesday, June 13, 2023, at 10 am at Memory Gardens Cemetery, 14200 Interstate 27 South, with Rev. Jim Smith presiding.

Lou Ellen Skipworth was born on January 1, 1929, in Shidler, Oklahoma. Her parents were Agnes Inez Shrewsberry and Delbert H. Wilkinson. She had one brother, Jack.

After her father died, Lou’s mother moved to Amarillo. Lou graduated from Amarillo high school in 1946.

She met Skip (Walter Clifford) Skipworth in 1948. They wed August 21, 1949, in Amarillo and had three sons, Rolfe, Drew, and Darrel.

Lou worked in private practices as a registered nurse. She also sold Avon products to put her sons through college.

Lou and Skip were members of Friendly Squares Square Dancers. They enjoyed their son’s ballgames and taking their family camping.

When Lou and Skip retired, they traveled the tristate area in their RV. They had a summer home in Pendaries, NM, and a winter home in the Rio Grande Valley. Later, they had a year-round home in Ingram, TX. Skip passed away on June 1, 2018.

Lou moved to Edmond, OK, to be closer to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Those left to cherish her memories are her sons and their families, Rolfe and Cindy, Drew and Kim, and Skip (Darrel) and Cheryl. Lou has three grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
