Louis Baca age 86 of Amarillo entered into his heavenly home on Sunday, February 5, 2023 while surrounded by his family.

A rosary service will be held on Thursday evening, February 9, 2023 at 6:00 PM at Schooler Funeral Home, 4100 South Georgia.  The funeral mass will be held on Friday, February 10, 2023 at 3:00 PM at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Amarillo, TX. Military honors will be rendered by The Volleys for Veterans.

Louis was born on the ZO Ranch in Mosquero, New Mexico to his parents Eufracio and Florencia Baca on May 9, 1936.  He attended school in Mosquero and graduated in 1955. He joined the US Army after High School and served for 2 years. After he returned from the US Army, he married Corrine Arguello on October 10, 1959.   The couple raised their three children on the ZO ranch in Mosquero, New Mexico.

Louis had a passion and love for horses, raising and training numerous in his lifetime. While helping his father Eufracio Baca operate the ZO Ranch, Louis wore many hats besides his cowboy hat. He served on the Mosquero School Board for several terms while his children were attending school. He was active in Harding County, New Mexico by serving as a county commissioner for several terms. He was a member of the American Legion. He was a very active member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Mosquero, NM and volunteered many man hours helping remodel the church, he and Corrine also served as Mayodormos to the church.

During his lifetime, Louis was a very devoted son, husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He put his family first but always found time to help others in need. Louis was a very thoughtful, humble, kind, and generous man. While raising his family he always made time to make sure his parents and mother-in-law were well cared for and needs met.

Louis touched so many lives over the years and will be greatly missed.

In 2019 Louis moved to Amarillo to be closer to the children.  He attended St. Joseph Catholic Church in Amarillo, TX.

He was preceded in death by his parents Eufracio & Florencia Baca; four sisters, Thomasita Martinez, Lucy Wells, Petra Montano and Flora Hill; his brother Eloy Baca; and by his wife Corrine in 2019.

Louis is survived by his daughter Frances Tilley and her husband Randy of Bushland; two sons, Tony Baca and his wife Darla of Bushland and Louis J Baca and his wife Melinda of Amarillo; two sisters, Beatrice Collins and Margie Trainor; two brothers, Paul and Theodore Baca; his grandchildren, Brandon Baca, Bryce Tilley and his wife Danielle, Shawn Tilley and his wife Sage and Summer Dietz; and his great grandchildren, Beau Tilley and a special blessing from God expected to arrive August of 2023, as well as many close relatives and friends.
