Maria was born on January 6, 1949, in Victoria, Arkansas, to her parents, Mike and Carmen Martinez Sierra. She attended Amarillo College for a time and worked in home healthcare.
In 2002 she married the dashing Ramon Saavedra, and that started an adventure that would last the next twenty-one years. They were true partners in life. Together they led a fulfilling, comfortable, and stable life. They were each other’s person, and one of their favorite things to do together was share ice cream. It could be from Dairy Queen or straight out of the gallon; they just enjoyed the ice cream!
Throughout Maria’s life, she was a caregiver. She cared for her husband, children, grandchildren, and patients alike. A giving, generous, and kind soul, Maria selflessly gave of her time and talents to serve others. The only thing more precious to her than her family was her Lord and Savior, Jesus. Maria had a heart for ministry as well and volunteered for the Kairos Prison Ministry, living her life as an example to others, and was a proud member of First Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Mike and Carmen Sierra; two brothers, Frank, and Steve Sierra; a son, Felix Zepeda Jr.; and by a granddaughter, Breanna Fletcher.
Maria is lovingly survived by her husband Ramon; three daughters Connie Salazar and her husband James of Amarillo, Felita Camacho of Ft. McDowell, Arizona, and Dora Ann Zepeda and her fiance, Trever Mart of Glendale, Arizona; her two bonus children, Ramon Saavedra Jr, and Magdalena Good;her three sisters, Delores Castillo of Hereford, Suzie Garza of Amarillo and Delma Mendez and her husband Lupe of Hereford; her three brothers, Christopher Sierra and Johnny Sierra and his wife Suzie all of Amarillo, and Richard Sierra and his wife Teresa of Hereford; seven grandchildren Jamie, James, Paul, Pablo, Nathan, Miranda and Derek and by eighteen great-grandchildren.
The family suggests that in lieu of flowers, memorials be made to First Baptist Church, 1208 South Tyler, Amarillo, Texas 79101.
