Maria was born on May 22, 1920, in Naples, Italy. She was raised in Naples and worked at the telephone office where she met the love of her life, Walter J. Weir II. They were married in Naples on September 9, 1945 moving to Amarillo in 1954. She loved being a mother to all and served others with a caring and compassionate manner which she demonstrated in her volunteer work for Catholic Family Service. She was an excellent seamstress and delighted in doing things for her family. Maria was an awesome Italian cook from scratch and also enjoyed preparing dishes with a Mediterranean flair.
She was preceded in death by her husband in 1989.
Survivors include her son Walter J. “Butch” Weir III and wife Elaine of Amarillo; two sisters, Assuntina Esposito of Naples, and Attoniteta Esposito of Sardenia.
The family requests memorials to the Presbyterian Home for Children, 3400 South Bowie Amarillo, Texas 79109.
