Martin
Herskovitz
Jul 27, 1944 — Jun 15, 2026
Martin “Marty” Herskovitz, beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend, passed away on June 15, 2026, surrounded by the love of his family.
Marty was born on July 27, 1944, in Lynbrook, New York, to Samuel and Dora Herskovitz, who preceded him in death, along with his older brother, Sheldon Herskovitz.
He is survived by his devoted wife of 59 years, Gail Herskovitz. Marty and Gail met while attending Florida State University, where a lifelong love story began. They were married on February 11, 1967, and built a life centered on family, friendship, and adventure.
He proudly served two years in the United States Army from 1966 to 1968, stationed at Fort Ord, California. Marty was a proud graduate of Florida State University, earning a Bachelor of Business Administration degree. Throughout his career, he worked for Owens Corning Fiberglass from 1970 until his retirement in 2000. His career provided opportunities for several corporate relocations, allowing the family to live in four different states and create many cherished memories along the way.
In addition to his beloved wife, Gail, he leaves behind his daughter, Debbie Hemphill and her husband, Jamie; his son, Michael Herskovitz and his wife, Trish; and his treasured grandchildren, Ashley Hemphill, Amber Hemphill and her partner, Tharon Woodard, Hope Herskovitz, Cole Herskovitz, and Cate Herskovitz. He was also the proud great-grandfather of Tyree James Woodard and Toussaint Woodard.
Marty was a man of wide-ranging interests and remarkable intellect. As a member of Mensa, he had a lifelong passion for learning and was an enthusiastic computer aficionado long before technology became a part of everyday life. He enjoyed classic rock music, was an avid reader, and loved exploring new places through travel. Above all, he cherished spending time with his family.
One of Marty’s greatest joys was enjoying Gail's cooking. He especially loved her homemade sweets, which brought him comfort and happiness throughout their many years together.
Per his request, there will not be a funeral service. The family asks that you fondly remember Marty and, if you wish, please donate to your favorite charity in his memory in lieu of flowers.
