Mary Ruth Gunter, born October 18, 1933 in Danville, Illinois to Lillian and Ervin Ferguson, passed peacefully in her home surrounded by her family on June 4, 2025
A graveside service will be held on Monday, June 9, 2025, at 2 pm at Llano Cemetery’s Garden Mausoleum, with Pastor Ken Branum presiding.
Mary Ruth graduated in 1950 from Amarillo High School where she was the Class Salutatorian. This lead to her working at American Telephone and Telegraph, and later holding several secretarial positions with many different companies. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Amarillo and had a deep passion for the Lord.
The family is very grateful for the care she received from High Plains Senior Care and Hospice. A special debt of gratitude is extended to Jackie Knight who cared for and loved Mary Ruth like she was her own mother throughout her life.
Mary Ruth is preceded in death by her parents, three brothers, Jack, Charles, and Patrick, sister, Wanda, and her son, Wesley Roberson. Those left to cherish her memories are her son, Steve Roberson and wife Donna, granddaughter Stephenie Roberson and spouse Adrian Salas, and great-grandson Colt Salas; as well as cousin, Charles Ferguson, dear friend Jackie Knight, Jackie’s grandson Smisson Goodlett, and many extended family and cherished friends.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests a donation be made in honor of Mary Ruth Gunter to the Amarillo SPCA or a charity of your choice that provides care for animals.
