Matt was born in Rantoul, Illinois on November 28, 1952, to John V. and Amelia (Berger) Sellmyer. While enlisted, Matt took up a job as a Letter Carrier in 1980 for the United States Postal Service. As with his military service, Matt faithfully served in his position for nearly 40 years before finally retiring in 2019. While employed, Matt served many different roles for the Postal Service, including the National Association of Letter Carriers (NALC), the Letter Carriers Union as both a member and an officer. He was an active Board Member of the Amarillo Postal Employees Credit Union as well.
Aside from Matt’s time in the Army and his career with the Postal Service, he was a very active member of the American Legion. He found great pleasure in bowling and travelling the country in his free time.
