Maureen was born on July 13,1939 in London, England to Margaret Paulene Geraghty and Michael Joseph Stapleton. She was the youngest of 4 daughters and because she needed immediate surgery and her father was suffering from TB at home, she was kept as a patient in the hospital nursery for two years. During this time, Maureen was moved several times due to hospitals being bombed during the blitz. When she was allowed to go home, her first words were not “Mommy” or "Daddy” but “Nurse!”
Maureen, along with her mother, immigrated to America in 1953 at the age of 14. They followed her oldest sister and settled in Amarillo, Texas and became members of Sacred Heart Cathedral where she met and later married Leo Joseph Mack at St. Mary’s Church on February 7, 1959. They had 5 children who were often told they were their parents’ greatest treasures.
Maureen earned her Brokerage/Realtor license and worked for over 30 years, owning her own Real Estate business and later Property Management business until her retirement. She was a founding member of St. Thomas the Apostle Parish and active in church activities, never missing a Sunday mass. She treasured her faith and especially important to her was receiving the weekly eucharist once telling her daughter Eileen that she felt a bodily warmth when receiving the body and blood of her Savior.
She gave her consent as a young adult to follow in the Christian faith and Maureen lived that consent witnessed by her love and faithfulness to her family and friends.
She is preceded in death by her parents, her best friend, Leo Mack, her son, Kevin Mack and her three sisters, Eileen Ewing, Elizabeth Prallie and Maggie Lee. She is survived by her children, Brian Mack (Jayne), Kathleen Wittler, Eileen Merriman (Tom) and Mary Margaret Cox (Allen). 6 Grandchildren: Austin and Brian Mack, Caitlin Schroeder (Tyler), Michelle Wittler, Madeline and Emily Merriman and 2 Great-Grandchildren, Cormac and Luci Schroeder.
Special thanks to Cheryl Oquin and BSA Hospice care of the Southwest.
