Melinda Alexander entered the presence of her Lord, leaving behind a legacy of kindness, compassion, and unwavering love for others.

Melinda was born on July 9, 1951, in Amarillo, Texas, to Kenneth and Sara Moreland Flamm. She graduated from Tascosa High School in 1969 before attending the University of Oklahoma, where she earned her degree in education. She devoted more than three decades to shaping young lives, first teaching at St. Andrew's Episcopal School for many years and later serving as a permanent substitute teacher at Lorenzo De Zavala Middle School before retiring to spend more time with family and friends. To generations of students, she was far more than a teacher—she was an encourager, a mentor, and a steady source of kindness.

On January 1, 1991, Melinda married the love of her life, Drew Alexander. Their marriage marked the beginning of a wonderful adventure that spanned twenty-four cherished years until Drew's passing in 2015. Together they built a life centered on love, laughter, and caring for those around them.

Teaching was not simply Melinda's profession—it reflected who she was at her core. Whether in the classroom, among friends, or within her family, she was a natural caregiver who expressed her love through acts of service. She had an infectious smile that immediately put others at ease, and her beauty radiated from within as much as it did outwardly. Fearless in the face of life's challenges and unfailingly kind to everyone she met, Melinda possessed a rare ability to make each person feel seen, valued, and loved.

Her kitchen was another classroom of sorts, where she shared not only delicious meals but also fellowship and hospitality. She found great joy in cooking for family and friends. She also gave generously of her time through volunteer work in the Amarillo community and was a proud member of the Amarillo Junior League, always seeking opportunities to serve others.

Melinda had a special affection for cats, especially tuxedo cats. She delighted in telling others that everyone should have a faithful black-and-white kitty like her beloved Wilson, who brought her endless companionship and joy.

Melinda's life was defined not by grand accomplishments alone, but by the countless quiet ways she made the world a gentler, warmer place. Her legacy lives on in the students she inspired, the family and friends she lovingly cared for, and the many lives forever touched by her generous heart, compassionate spirit, and radiant smile.

She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing her.

She was preceded in death by her parents and by her beloved husband Drew in 2015.

Melinda is survived by her daughters, Megan Brown of Amarillo and Angela Cates of Georgia; her sons, Brennon Brown and wife, Kirsten Laaspare of Longmont, CO, and Drew Alexander of Amarillo; her brother, Phillip Flamm and wife, Carla of Lubbock; brother-in-law, Lynn ALexander and wife, Rovena of Kentucky and by three grandchildren, Tabor, Lauren and Tyler.
