Michael Kyler Joseph Johns, lovingly known to many simply as Kyler, was born on March 13, 1993, in Canyon, Texas. From the very beginning, Kyler’s story was one that family would tell with laughter and affection for years to come — he entered the world at home, in a bean bag- earning the unforgettable title of the family’s “bean bag baby.” He was the fourth of seven children, growing up surrounded by the chaos, adventure, and deep bonds that only a large family can bring.
Kyler graduated from Randall High School in 2011, where he was a proud member of the wrestling team. One of his favorite accomplishments was winning the Dumas Takedown wrestling tournament during his junior year in 2010.
From childhood on, Kyler was mechanically minded and endlessly curious. He loved taking things apart just to understand how they worked — and usually putting them back together again, even if there always seemed to be a few “extra parts” left over that he insisted were unnecessary. As he grew older, that curiosity turned into remarkable skill. There was very little Kyler could not fix. If he did not know how to do something, he would simply teach himself until he figured it out. Working with his hands came naturally to him, and helping others with those talents came even more naturally.
Kyler had a deep love for animals throughout his life, especially his beloved dog, Tinker Bell, a Schipperke, who held a very special place in his heart among the many pets he adored. He also had a unique tenderness for the elderly, showing patience, kindness, and respect that reflected the goodness of his character.
One cherished family memory perfectly captures who Kyler was. During a trip to Red River, New Mexico, Kyler was with his siblings and family friends on a Jtrail when the group became stranded. Without hesitation, Kyler made his way back down the mountain to find his mother and get help, determined to make sure everyone made it safely home. It was the kind of thing Kyler did — when people needed help, he showed up.
Kyler will be remembered for his honesty, loyalty, and willingness to help anyone in need. He was the kind of friend people could depend on, steady and true. Whether fixing something broken, lending a hand, or simply being present, Kyler left an impression on those around him through quiet acts of good and kindness. Kyler was a good son, a good brother, and a good man. His memory will continue to live on in the stories shared by those who loved him, and in the many lives made better simply because he was part of them.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Jackie Johns, Basil Johns, and Duane Carlson.
Kyler is survived by his parents, Eben and Gwen Johns; his siblings, Caleb Johns and spouse Lara, Kasha Lindley and spouse Jared, Caten Johns and Danya Serrono, Kolbe Johns, Kiera Johns McMurry and spouse Cole, and Conor Johns; his grandmother, Barbara Carlson; his uncles, Rick Carlson and James Clark; his aunts, Lisa Winfrey, Nina Rebstock and spouse Tom, Jeri DeAngelis, Josie Richter and spouse Tim, and Diana Howard Carlson; his cousins, Brittany, Brianna, Jacob, Haley, Ana, and Cole; as well as three nephews. Austin, Merrick and Xander; and four nieces, Arabella, Avanlea, Zipporah and Xena.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorials be made in Kyler's memory to St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church, 4100 South Coulter, Amarillo, Texas 79121.
