Obituary

Michael (Mike) Frank Britten, 68, of Groom, Texas went to be with the Lord on September 15th, 2026. He was born on March 18,1958 to Raphael John Britten and Nell Eugenia Hermesmeyer Britten in Groom, TX.

Mike grew up on the Britten Family Farm six and a half miles northwest of Groom with his sisters Mary Nell, Bernadette, Angie, and Pat. He attended Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church School until the 4th grade. Then, he attended Groom Junior High and High School.

On January 30, 1982, Mike married the love of his life Marla Sue Artho on a snowy day in Vega, TX. Together, they built a life full of faith and love in Groom, TX for 44 ½ years.

Mike was a man of all trades. He served as Carson County Commissioner Precinct 1 for 36 years. He also was a trader of farm goods, a bank appraiser, a truck driver, and a community and church volunteer. Mike had a servant’s heart. He valued being a loving husband, father, and Papa Mike.

Mike had lots of “Mike-isms”. He enjoyed entertaining his children, in-laws, and grandchildren. Some of our dearest memories include listening to Mike’s stories and songs and laughing over the memes he sent his friends throughout the day. The nights would be filled with so much laughter that Mike would pull out a red hanky as he wiped the tears from his eyes.

Mike was a friend to all. Those he held near knew just how special it was to be one of his people. His friendships ran deep. Mike had a way of making people feel welcomed, included, and like they had known him for years.

Mike was preceded in death by his father, Raphael J. Britten, mother Nell E. Britten, sister Bernadette Tyrrell, brothers-in-law Scott Tyrrell and Bobby Crownover.

Mike is survived by his loving wife, Marla Sue Artho Britten; his children Macie Ingram (husband Barrett), Wyatt Britten (wife Karrin), Lainie Eilenberger (husband Coby), and Caroline Dukes (husband Trevor); his eight beautiful grandchildren, Ava, Carson, Emma, Elliot, Carter, Daylin, John Luke, and Josephine; his sisters Mary Nell Huseman (husband Randy), Angie Britten, and brother Pat Britten (wife Connie), and many loving in-laws, nephews and nieces.

At Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church, 411 Ware Ave, Groom, TX, Holy Rosary will be prayed Friday, September 18th at 6:00 p.m. and funeral mass will celebrated on Saturday, September 19th at 10:00 a.m. Internment will be at St. Mary’s Cemetery.
