Michael James Moore, Sr.

Michael James Moore, “Mike,” “Grandaddy,” passed away on Wednesday, December 7, 2022.

Visitation will be from 6-7:00 p.m., Monday, December 19, 2022 at Schooler Funeral Home, 4100 S. Georgia St. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, December 20, at First Baptist Church in Amarillo.

Mike was a humble servant of the Lord and never met a stranger. Mike was born on December 23, 1946, in Baton Rouge, Louisiana to the late Margaret Landry Moore and James Alexander Moore. Mike was raised in Baton Rouge and Houston.

He graduated from Texas Christian University (“TCU”) and Bates College of Law in Houston and had a long and successful career as an attorney in the oil and gas industry for Mesa Petroleum and ConocoPhillips. Mike married Mary Curtiss on September 27, 1975. He was a great father to his two children. He enjoyed attending his children’s activities, jogging with his two yellow labs, boating, yard work and cheering for the TCU Horned Frogs and LSU Tigers. The best job he ever had according to him was being “Grandaddy” to his four grandchildren. Mike’s love for the Lord was most evident in his daily life with his caring personality showing in all he did and how he treated others.

Mike is survived by his wife of 47 years Mary Curtiss Moore, his son Michael James Moore, II and daughter-in-law Carrie Moore, his daughter Merideth Moore Tullous and son-in-law Trey Tullous; precious grandchildren, Landry Kate Moore and Michael James Moore, III (Three), Eldon Campbell Tullous and Hudson Micah Tullous; brother Larry Moore, sisters Candy Tovar and Suzy Seely and their spouses.
