Nancy Holt Gormley died on September 3, 2026. She was born on December 29, 1957, in Muleshoe to Robert and Sally Holt. When she was 3 years old, her family moved to Amarillo. She attended Ridgecrest Elementary, Crockett Junior High and graduated from Amarillo High School.

Nancy was always vivacious, beautiful, and a leader. At Crockett Junior High, she was a cheerleader, class favorite, and class treasurer. However, she really came into her own on her enrollment at Texas Tech. There she became a freshman cheerleader and later varsity cheerleader. During her senior year, she was named the first female head cheerleader in the history of Tech and was later inducted into the Panhandle Sports Hall of Fame for that accomplishment.

During summers Nancy taught at cheerleading camps across the U.S. with the World Cheerleader Council, Inc. She served on the selection committee for the Texas Tech Masked Rider, and on several other committees for recruitment, including serving as an Ambassador for Tech. Nancy was crowned the Delta Tau Delta Playmate of the Year, and was a runner-up for Miss Texas Tech. She earned a B.A. in Theater Arts upon graduation.

Following graduation Nancy returned to Amarillo, and became an active community member, becoming involved in the Junior League of Amarillo and the Panhandle Humane Society. She was an animal lover and adopted many dogs, including three Great Danes. She chaired several fundraising events throughout the years for various organizations, including the Amarillo Symphony Ball, and the Cancer Society Auxiliary.

One day, she went to her sister's law office to “help out with some filing” and never left. It soon became her daily routine to answer the telephone, prepare documents (though at first she could not type at all and seldom advanced beyond two fingers) soon becoming a full-fledged legal assistant. She moved with her sister to the Underwood Law Firm in 1994. They both retired in 2016 and along the way Nancy became Board Certified by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization as a legal assistant in Family Law.

Nancy married Dr. Jerold W. Gormley in 1991 and became active in the Panhandle District Dental Society Auxiliary. Nancy and Jerry traveled extensively to many countries and road-trip destinations. They especially loved going to Jamaica, visited many times, meeting up with a group of people they met there and with whom they became life-long friends.

Nancy was preceded in death by her husband, Jerold Gormley; her father, Robert Holt; and her mother, Sally Skaggs. She is survived by her sister Sally Holt Emerson and husband Don Emerson; her brother John Holt and wife Ann; her daughters Kati Adams and husband Marcus, their children Abbi, Ben and Andrew Adams; and Liesel Williams and her children Madison and John Spangler; nephews Rex Emerson and wife Liz, their children Birdie and Grace Emerson and Robert Emerson and wife Sasha and their son Bear; and her “second sister” Tamara Bonifield and husband Hugh Bonifield. Nancy is also survived by fur babies Monkey Boy, Nelson and Diesel.

Services are scheduled for September 21, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Andrews Episcopal Church 1601 S. Georgia, Amarillo, Texas. Nancy was emphatic in her request that no one wear black to the memorial. She loved bright cheery colors and asked that all dress accordingly.
