Phillip Danny Freeman, lovingly known as Phil, passed away on October 20, 2026, in Amarillo, Texas, at the age of 71. Born on December 20, 1954, in Erick, Oklahoma, to Eulene and Barney Freeman. Services will be held Monday, October 26th, 2026 at 11:00 am at Saint Stephen Church of Amarillo. A livestream is being provided by St Stephen's Church of Amarillo at the link Saint Stephen's Church of Amarillo.
Phil graduated from Erick High School in 1973 and immediately began working in the oil fields and driving cattle trucks. These early years reflected his strong work ethic and willingness to do whatever it took to get the job done. In 1977, Phil moved to Panhandle, Texas, where he began his career at Pantex in security. Over the next 45 years, he faithfully served the organization before retiring, leaving behind a legacy of loyalty, perseverance, and dedication.
In July 1982, Phil married Renae Lamberson, beginning a life together centered on family and the memories they built along the way. Together, they raised two sons, Rowdy and Pake, who were a lasting source of pride in his life.
Some of Phil's greatest joys came from being involved in his boys' lives. He loved coaching Rowdy and Pake in Little League baseball and participating in stock shows with them. For Phil, these were more than activities; they were opportunities to spend time with his sons, support their interests, and create memories that would last a lifetime.
Over the past 20 years, Phil could often be found in the stands at his boys' football games, proudly watching them play or coach. As his family grew, so did the events he attended. In more recent years, he was there to cheer on his grandchildren, Beckett and Paxton, at their competitions, concerts, recitals, and contests. Whether on the ball field, in the show ring, under the Friday night lights, or in the audience celebrating his grandchildren's accomplishments, Phil's place was wherever his family needed him. His presence, support, and pride in those he loved were among the greatest gifts he gave them.
Phil is survived by his wife, Renae Freeman; his sons, Rowdy Freeman and wife, Rachel, of Amarillo, Texas, and Pake Freeman of Lubbock, Texas; and his grandchildren, Beckett and Paxton. Through Rowdy's family, Phil also shared a special family bond with his step-grandchildren, Alex, Maddie, and Gage.
He is also survived by his brother, Steve Freeman, and Steve's wife, Ann, along with numerous nieces and nephews who were part of his extended family.
Phil was preceded in death by his parents, Eulene and Barney Freeman; his older sister, Phyllis Holmberg; and his father-in-law, Stocky Lamberson.
Phil's life was a testament to the value of hard work, commitment, and family. From his early days in Oklahoma to his many years of service at Pantex, he built a life marked by determination and steadfast dedication. Yet, beyond his career and accomplishments, his greatest legacy was the time he spent with his family and the unwavering support he showed those he loved.
His presence will be deeply missed by those who knew and loved him, but the memories he created will continue through his family for generations to come. His journey may have come to an end, but his memory will live on in the hearts of his wife, sons, grandchildren, extended family, and all those fortunate enough to have known him.
Phil's ashes will be scattered along the Oregon Coast among some of his favorite places. These beautiful coastal spots held a special place in his heart, as they were the setting for the annual “boys' trips” he cherished with his two sons and grandson. Those trips created treasured memories filled with adventure, laughter, and time together.
He will be loved, remembered, and missed always.
