Rex Alan Craig, 77, passed away peacefully in his bed at home on May 25, 2026.
Born on November 22, 1948, in Paris, Illinois, Rex lived a life defined by generosity, resilience, faith, and an unwavering commitment to helping others. He was a proud veteran who served during the Vietnam War and later built a successful career as a builder and business owner of Craig Building. Through his work, Rex left a lasting mark on the communities he served, creating not only structures but also relationships that endured for decades.
Rex had a remarkable gift for turning strangers into friends. Whether through a shared conversation, a home-cooked meal, or a helping hand, he made people feel welcome and valued. He genuinely cared about others, especially those who were struggling, and quietly offered support wherever he saw a need.
He was a creator at heart. He loved working with his hands and found joy in building, gardening, cooking, and tackling projects large and small. Even while enduring years of significant chronic pain and intensive health challenges, he continued to give of himself. He remained determined to help others, often spending his time building something for a friend, preparing food for family and guests, or opening his home to those around him. His strength, perseverance, and positive spirit inspired everyone who knew him.
As a Jehovah’s Witness, Rex’s faith was an important part of his life. He found comfort in his beliefs and sought to reflect those values through his actions, treating others with compassion, generosity, and respect.
Rex is survived by his beloved wife, Ann Marlow; his daughters, Tonya Lopez-Craig and Paige Craig; his granddaughter, Sofia Lopez-Craig; and his stepsons, Jeff Tanner, Chris Hoyt, and Kevin Hoyt.
He was preceded in death by his father, Bill Craig; his mother, Helen Simmonds; his stepson, Evan Tanner; and his stepdaughter, Brenna Tanner.
Rex will be remembered for his inspiring resilience and determination, his endless generosity and selfless ways, and his ability to make everyone feel like family. The lives he touched are countless, and his legacy of kindness and service will continue through all who knew and loved him.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, June 13, 2026, at 3:00 p.m. at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, 5141 Canyon Drive, Amarillo, Texas 79110. A reception for family and friends will follow from 5:00–7:00 p.m., with location information provided at the service.
Though deeply missed, Rex leaves behind a lifetime of memories, friendships, and acts of kindness that will continue to inspire those who were fortunate enough to know him.
Those closest to him take comfort in knowing that his final hours were filled with expressions of love from his family and closest friends, whom he cherished deeply.
