Rita Agnes Baker, 95, of Amarillo, passed peacefully on September 28, 2025.
The family will receive guests on Thursday, October 2, 2025, from 5 pm to 7:30 pm at Schooler Funeral Home, 4100 S. Georgia. Funeral services are being held at Lifeway Fellowship Baptist Church, 3315 Hancock St, with Pastor Randy Davis presiding. Burial will be private.
Rita was born on October 20, 1939, in Nashville, Arkansas to John William and Lois Mylem (Chandler) Hedrick. She attended Amarillo High School and was a lifelong sales associate in the retail industry before retirement. She married Floy Baker in September of 1947 at Pierce St. Baptist Church and the two built a life together that lasted many years. Rita was deeply devoted in her faith and was a Charter Member of Lifeway Fellowship Baptist Church. She gave her time teaching Sunday School for decades. Rita was also part of the Event Coordination Committee that fed the Student Ministry, funeral meal preparation, and other events that took place at the church.
Rita enjoyed a good shopping trip. It didn’t matter if it was for a new blouse, or just to get out of the house and browse, she was the epitome of “A bad day shopping beats a good day at work anytime”. But nothing compared to the love she had for her family. Christmas was her favorite holiday, and those moments with her children, grandchildren, and even great-grandchildren were her most cherished memories.
Rita is preceded in death by her husband, her parents, daughter, Sherry, and brothers, Wayne and Glenn. Those left to cherish her memories are her son, Kerry Baker and wife Ruth, grandchildren, Phillip, Joshua, Ryan, Adam, and Amber, and great-grandchildren, Kyler, Mia, Zephyr, Bowie, Charlie, Ashlynn, and Emmett; as well as many extended family and dear friends.
