Robert Eugene Cox

March 24, 1930 — June 22, 2025

Amarillo

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Robert Eugene Cox, a beloved father, grandfather, and friend, who departed this life peacefully on June 22, 2025, at the age of 95. Born on March 24, 1930, Robert lived a life rich in love, service, and joy, and he will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

Robert will lie in state for viewing on Monday, June 23, 2025, from 4 pm to 7 pm at Schooler Funeral Home, 4100 S. Georgia. The funeral service will be held in the funeral home's Brentwood Chapel at 2 pm on Tuesday, June 24, 2025, with Reverend Robby Barrett of First Baptist Church presiding. Burial will follow at Llano Cemetery

A resident of Amarillo, Texas, Robert was a dedicated member of Bolton Street Baptist Church and was united in marriage to his cherished wife, Sally Jean Morford, on October 24, 1948, in Clovis, New Mexico. Their 72 years of marriage were a testament to their unwavering love and commitment to one another.

Robert had a long and fulfilling career as a truck driver with the Navajo and ABF Freight Lines, where he devoted over 40 years of his life to the transportation industry. He was a man of great character, known for his infectious smile and kind, gentle eyes. Robert’s love for sports was evident; he enjoyed playing golf and bowling throughout his life; and he was a die-hard Dallas Cowboy Fan. Although he ultimately had to give up bowling upon his doctor's advice that he was prematurely wearing out his new hips, Robert excelled in golf, shooting his age on several occasions and achieving three remarkable hole-in-ones, and winning several senior tournaments at Ross Rogers Golf Course of Amarillo.

He was a dedicated father and a loving grandfather, with his daughters, Pam Lee and Kathy Armstrong, and his son, Larry Cox, and wife, Margaret, holding a special place in his heart. His numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren adored him, as did everyone fortunate enough to cross his path. Robert's warmth and good nature endeared him to those around him, and he was a true friend to many.

Robert is preceded in death by his parents, his beloved wife Sally Jean Cox, brothers, Johnny, Tommy, and Jimmy, sister Betty, and siblings who passed in early childhood. He is also preceded in death by his son-in-law, Jerry Lee, and his cherished granddaughter, Mallory. Left to cherish his memories are his daughters, Pam and Kathy, son Larry and wife Margaret; seven grandchildren, Heather, Mindy, Brian, Toby, Ryan, Mitch and Mark; twelve great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren, with the anticipation of one more on the way.

In Lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that a donation be made to any of the local high school golf team’s scholarship funds in honor of Robert Cox.
