Roger Allen Carry

February 17, 1932 — April 23, 2009

Roger was born February 17, 1933 on a farm in Turtle Creek Township, Todd County Minnesota, to Arthur and Myrtle Carry. His education began in a one-room school house, which he attended through 8th grade.  He attended Staples High School until the lure of adventures unseen beckoned to him.
Mr. Carry explored the world, courtesy of the United States Navy, on the USS Lake Champlain, USS Intrepid, and USS Midway.  Stops in these travels saw him involved in the Korean conflict and Bay of Pigs invasion.
While enlisted in the Navy, Roger married Elizebeth (Betty) Olmschenk on December 23, 1954 in St. Paul, Minnesota.  As his travels were coming to a close, and with four children to raise, he retired from the military and settled into civilian life.  Mr. Carry entered the sheet metal trade to support his family.  After retiring from the trade, he took a job with the Postal Service, where he worked until his final retirement in 1998.
Roger’s passions were his family, his church, gardening, NASCAR, and his dog Gizmo.
He was known for his wit and his ability to make everyone smile, along with his desire to make people laugh.
Roger was preceded in death by his loving parents.
He is survived by his wife “Betty”; two sons, Mitch and wife Kim of Amarillo and Brad and wife Cheryl of Tuttle, OK; and two daughters, Lynn Stukey and husband Clifford and Lori Gollihugh and husband Bobby, both of Amarillo; three sisters, Geraldine Coley and husband Charles and Constance Nelson and husband Doug , both of Brentwood, CA,  and Artis Pieper and husband Lyle of Inver Grove Heights, MN; thirteen grandchildren, Jennifer Atchley and husband Scott and Christina Bettag and husband Marcus, Clayton and Braydon Stukey, all of Amarillo, Kelton and Sheldon Stukey of Lubbock, Ashley Carry of Richmond, VA, Andi and Scott Carry both of Amarillo, Mitchell and Jayme Carry, both of Tuttle, OK, Jason Gollihugh and wife Mindy and Jessica Gollihugh, all of Amarillo; and nine great grandchildren.
