Santos G. Rodriguez, 92, of Amarillo, died peacefully on March 16, 2024, at his home, surrounded by his family.
Public viewing will be Tuesday, March 19, 2024, from 9:00 AM until 7:00 PM at Schooler Funeral Home, 4100 South Georgia. The funeral service will be Wednesday, March 20, 2024, at 11:00 AM at New Life Church, 406 S. Pittsburg, with Rev. Greg Corona of Hillside Christian Church officiating. Interment will follow at Llano Cemetery.
Santos was born November 1, 1931, in Elsa, Texas, to his parents, Rosario and Maria Jesusa Rodriguez. Throughout his life, he loved visiting his hometown in the valley. While there, he could catch up with friends and his many nieces and nephews.
He was a truck driver for Quarter Way Gin for over thirty-five years, working until he was 75. He loved old cowboy westerns and spent his afternoons watching his favorites and drinking Diet Dr. Pepper.
Santos married Hortenica on September 17, 1954, in Stockdale, Texas. Their family would grow to include eight children. Santos was very family-oriented and was happiest when surrounded by his children and grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, five brothers, his wife Hortencia, two sons, Albert and Santos Jr., and three grandsons, Timothy and Rocky Rodriguez, and Bobby Jackson.
Santos is survived by his three daughters, Esmeralda Fierro and her husband Richard, Mikaela Delgado and her husband Juan, and Sylvia Cortes and her husband Angel Flores; by three sons, Reynaldo Rodriguez and his wife Dominga, Martin Rodriguez and his wife Barbara; and Ricky Rodriguez; by his daughter-in-law, Jo Rodriguez’ his favorite canine buddy, Popi; thirty-three grandchildren, sixty-nine great-grandchildren; and sixteen great-great-grandchildren.
