July 19, 1934 — September 20, 2025

Sharon Ann Weatherly, 91, of Amarillo, passed peacefully in her home on September 20, 2025 surrounded by her beloved family.

The family will receive guests on Thursday, September 25, 2025, from 5:00 pm to 6:30 pm at Schooler Funeral Home, 4100 S. Georgia. Rosary will follow at 6:30. Mass will be celebrated on Friday, September 26, 2025, at 2:00 pm, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, 4122 S. Bonham, with Reverend Gabriel Garcia presiding. Entombment will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery.

Sharon was born on July 19, 1934, in New Albany, Indiana to Curtis and Barbara (Reinhart) Gurtz. The family moved to Warren Michigan in the early 1940’s and she graduated from St. Anthony’s Catholic High School in Detroit, Michigan at the age of 16, something that she remained incredibly proud of throughout her entire life. Sharon married Bob Chauvin and moved to Washington State for the Coast Guard; she became a widow after five months. She then returned to Michigan. In the summer of 1955 she made what she called a sabbatical trip following Route 66 to end up in San Diego California where she met a wild West Texas sailor, Lee Weatherly and married. After Lee discharged from the Navy they moved to Michigan for a year then moved to Amarillo in 1957 where they put down roots to raise their family. Sharon was a member of St. Laurence Catholic Church and then moved St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in 1968. Sharon made many sacrifices to put all five of her children through Catholic School. She was also a member of the Amarillo Diocesan ACTS Community.

Sharon was incredibly intelligent and she could solve just about any issue with a few moments to think. In her professional life, she was an office and finance manager in the Mobile Home field for many years. Following her “retirement” at 74, she began working with her daughter Carrie at her salon until June of this year. Sharon was strong willed and made sure everyone knew she was the one in charge. She enjoyed crocheting and made sure everyone received a personalized piece even if you didn’t want one. Sharon’s love for her family was surpassed by nothing. She would sit in her chair during family gatherings watching everyone and say, “Look what I started” with extreme pride. As her memory began to fail, that changed to “Who started all this”, followed by a brief chuckle.

Sharon is preceded in death by her husband, Bob Chauvin, her husband, Lee after 66 years of marriage, her parents; and sisters, Mary Jo Balthasar and Clara Green.

She has left behind what she started, her daughters, Barbara Oehlert (Randy} and Carrie Burton (Ronald) and her sons, Curtis Weatherly (Nelly}, Mike Weatherly, and Mark Weatherly; 10 grandchildren, Justin, Jacob, Wes, April, Zach, Benjamin, Zoey, Daniel, Christian and Shawn, 10 great-grandchildren, Ruby, John, Grace, Maelee, Layla, Rhea, Kainlee, Zayn, Hayes, and Keeley, and 2 great-great-grandchildren, Maeve and Leo. Sharon also leaves her sister, Valeria “Val” Hengst and husband Dave, Brother-in-Law, Tony Balthasar, and numerous extended family, friends and her sweet lap dog Susie. Many thanks to her caregiver Ms. Osie.
