Sheila Ann Howard

April 23, 1953 — October 16, 2023

Amarillo

Sheila Ann Howard, 70, of Amarillo passed peacefully on October 16, 2023.

The family will celebrate Sheila’s life on Friday, October 20, 2023, at 4 p.m. in the Schooler Funeral Home’s Brentwood Chapel, 4100 S. Georgia, with Scott Edwards-Elder of First Christian Church presiding.

Sheila was born on April 23, 1953, in Borger, Texas to Richard and Billie Wilson. She attended Borger Public School District and graduated from Borger High School. She continued her education by making her way to Lubbock, Texas and attending Texas Tech University where she earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Education. She married Steve Howard in Amarillo, Texas. The two of them loved to travel, although Steve didn’t fully understand the concept of camping. Their journeys often saw them pack a TV, VCR, and generator and never actually leaving the camper.

Sheila was more than just a teacher. Education was her passion, and she was incredible at her chosen profession. She spent the better part of 42 years proudly serving the Amarillo Independent School District as an Art Teacher. During her time in Amarillo, she taught at Mann Middle School, Travis Middle School, and Pleasant Valley Elementary School. She “retired” from her teaching life in 2017, and took on the role of Tutor for ESSR at Austin Middle School before her declining health ultimately forced her to actually retire in May of 2023.

Sheila was a dog woman through and through. She loved her four legged friends, especially Mikey. She was very independent and was often found working on her home or yard finishing up one project after another. When not working around the house, Sheila would work on her arts, whether it be painting, drawing, or any sort of crafting. She found peace in her creations. Sheila loved to help her friends and family, no matter the circumstances. She was there with no questions asked.

Sheila is preceded in death by her husband Steve and her parents. Those left to cherish her memories are her son Jared Sherman and wife Allison of Amarillo, TX, grandchildren Jordyn Sherman of Taos, NM, and Peyton and Cooper Embry of Amarillo, TX; brothers Jimmy Wilson and Monty Brown and wife Christi of Dallas, TX, sister Candy Rutledge of Dallas, TX; and Niece Monica Bates of Bartonville, TX, as well as many other family and dear friends.
