Perry “Shelby” Mayes, 76, of Amarillo passed away on November 4, 2022.

Public viewing hours will be on Tuesday, November 8, 2022 from 10am to 6pm at Schooler Funeral Home, 4100 S. Georgia Amarillo, TX. A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, November 9, 2022 at 2pm in the funeral home’s Brentwood Chapel with Rev. Greg Corona of Hillside Christian Church presiding. Burial will follow in Llano Cemetery.

Shelby was born on September 6, 1946 in Memphis, Tennessee to Perry Wesley and Catherine (Buck) Mayes. Shelby grew up in the East Arkansas Delta and later lived in Little Rock for ten years where he attended the University of Arkansas at Little Rock. He moved to Amarillo in 1978. In 1986, Shelby married Loretta Brower in North Little Rock, Arkansas.

Shelby was a dedicated Razorback fan and longtime member and supporter of the Razorback Foundation. He and Loretta enjoyed attending football games in Fayetteville and watching televised games. Shelby was a Certified Purchasing Manager and Certified Texas Procurement Manager and proudly served as Director of Purchasing for Cal Farley’s Boys Ranch for 22 years.

Shelby was a member of the Texas Panhandle Chapter of National Association of Purchasing Managers and formerly served as the Chapter Treasurer. He also formerly served on the Board of Directors of the Llano Cemetery Association. He was a member of Hillside Christian Church and the Faith Builders Sunday School Class.

Shelby was preceded in death by his father in 1970, his mother in 1995, his sister Hester Ann Brown in 2010, brother in law Fred Brown in 2013, sister in law Paula Welch and husband Wayne, and niece Sheila Cunningham. Those left to cherish his memories are his beloved wife Loretta, daughter Donna Poole and husband Robert, granddaughter Jennifer Poole, grandson Daniel Poole; nieces Janet Mann Stewart and Debbie Solis, and nephew Gregory Welch all of Amarillo.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a monetary donation in honor of Shelby be made to Cal Farley’s Boys Ranch PO Box 1890 Amarillo, TX 79174; or Hillside Christian Church 6100 S. Soncy Rd Amarillo, TX 79119.
