Shirley Ann Greener

December 5, 1937 — November 2, 2025

Amarillo

Shirley Ann Hall Greener (5 December 1937 - 2 November 2025) was born in Oklahoma City, OK to Mary Margaret Mohr Hall and Anthony Carl Hall. She spent her formative years in Phoenix, Arizona, before moving to Amarillo, Texas, with her family in 1969.

Shirley received her B.S. in Accounting from Arizona State University where she was one of the first women to obtain a degree in business. She thrived on campus as an active member of Gamma Phi Beta and a Pom-pom girl and was elected Delta Sig Dream Girl and Campus Queen. She also worked tirelessly in an election campaign to transform Arizona State College into Arizona State University. Shirl was a lifelong learner. Her husband, Dan, used to say, “She’s so smart, she can figure out anything!” And so began her endeavors as an accountant, contractor, homeroom mom, interior designer, substitute teacher, engineer, art teacher, choir director, upholsterer, plumber, computer enthusiast, chef, fundraiser, editor, clown, actress, and her favorite roles: wife, mom, and Mim.

Shirley married her St. Mary’s High School sweetheart, Daniel Lee Greener, and raised their family at their beloved Huntington home, where they would live out the rest of their 67 years of marriage. She is survived by her four daughters, Danilee Frigo (Dean) of Amarillo, Shelly Blandford (Rick) of Amarillo, Angie Gillette of Chandler, AZ, and Wendy Robbins (Kyle) of Los Alamos, NM. She was the ultimate mom, making everything magical—homemade costumes and dresses, themed birthday parties, whimsically decorated bedrooms, delicious family dinners, carefully curated photo albums and videos, adventurous vacations, and cozy bedtime rituals of books, songs, and prayer.

Everyone was always welcome at the Greener home. Shirley honored the true meaning of the holidays and was known to invite those who were alone to join her family at Thanksgiving. She loved to entertain and hosted countless parties. Shirley and Dan kept their social calendar full and attended the Charlaton Dance Club, Epicurean Dinner Club, and numerous charity events. She served on the boards of the Amarillo Art Alliance and Symphony Guild, and she treasured her role as the co-chairman of the Amarillo Junior League Fun Fest. A lifelong devotee to grammar, she also served as the editor of the Junior League's monthly newsletter, The Limit, and she habitually proofread everything she read.

Shirley was a founding member of Saint Thomas the Apostle Church and loved her roles as the late Monsignor Tash’s unofficial deputy and music director. Her devotion, love of music, and eye for design still leave an impression on the church today.

A born entertainer, Shirley delighted audiences as Golda in Fiddler on the Roof, Lucille from Cemetery Club, and supporting roles in Sweeney Todd and Joseph and the Technicolor Dreamcoat among others. She also charmed her community in volunteer roles such as Raggedy Ann at the Amarillo Speech and Hearing Center, Edith Ann (a character originated by Lily Tomlin), and as a book reviewer (her favorite author was Erma Bombeck). She enjoyed the fellowship of conducting the Amarillo Junior League’s “Hallelujah Singers,” as they brightened the halls of nursing homes with song.

Shirley’s greatest gift was making occasions feel special and helping people feel celebrated; so, her transition into fulfilling the dreams of brides was a natural progression of her talents. She and her husband, Dan, along with her eldest daughter, Danilee, opened Brides of Amarillo in 1994, and were blessed with 30 wonderful years of success that brightened so many weddings, quinciñeras, and proms.

She still found time to be the world’s greatest Mim to her twelve grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren. She was in the audience of countless sporting events, dance recitals, plays, and graduations, and never missed the chance to read them a good book. She will continue to be fiercely loved by all she made an impact on and dearly missed by her surviving friends and family.

Her funeral mass will be held on  Friday, November 21st at 2:00 at St Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church in Amarillo, TX.
