Sonya Kay (Gott) Schilling

August 4, 1962 — October 10, 2023

Amarillo

Sonya Kay Schilling, 61, of Amarillo, peacefully passed away at her home on October 10, 2023. A rosary and vigil will be held on Friday, October 13, 2023, at 6:00 pm, followed by a funeral mass on Saturday, October 14, 2023, at 10:00 am, both at St. Thomas the Apostle Church, 4100 S. Coulter.

Born on August 4th in Ukiah, California, to Junior and Shairon Gott, Sonya's early years were spent across California and the South, always returning to Batesville, Arkansas, their cherished home base. It was there she met and fell in love with her husband, Richard Schilling. They later moved to Garden City, Kansas, blending their families through marriage in 1986. Sonya pursued a degree in business and managed TransPak until dedicating herself full-time to being a stay-at-home mom.

Sonya had a heart for volunteering, she coached her children’s baseball and softball teams, supported fundraisers, and lead the local 4H club. A natural angler, she went from fishing ponds with her Dad to competing on a women’s deep sea fishing team.

Sonya loved cheering on her children and grandchildren in any event she could. You would always know if she was in the stands!

Sonya is preceded in death by her father Junior Gott, her mother Shairon Gott, and sister Tonya Gott.

Sonya is survived by her loving husband Richard Schilling; daughter Nicole Prasad and husband Aaron; sons Eddie Williams, Brent Schilling, John Williams; daughter Tara Wingate and husband Landon; siblings Rhonda Branscum and husband Donnie, Shawna Branscum and husband Jim, Johnny Gott, Shawn Gott and wife Teonia; her grandchildren Tavianna, Jacob, Jayden, Brycen, Gavin, Savian, Kendall, Hudson, Zaraya, Jack, Wyatt, and Cora; her great-grandson Daxx; adopted mother-in-law Shirley Williams; and many nieces, nephews and extended family.
