Steve Juan Martinez

June 8, 1950 — June 5, 2023

Amarillo

Steve was born in Dawn, Texas, to Pablo and Beatrice Martinez and was raised in Amarillo. There he met the love of his life, Vickey Palacio married in 1990 and lived a full, rich family life. He was devoted to his family, everything he did, every decision he made was for our family. He was a husband, father, brother, grandfather, uncle and father-in law. He spoiled and protected the grandchildren; in his eyes they could do no wrong. He created a beautiful oasis in our backyard, for family gatherings, including three rose prayer gardens. Anyone that knew him knew he was an avid Dallas Cowboy fan and loved music. He had several very close friends with whom he loved spending time with, Sean Flanagan, Cousin Danny Valverde, Phillip Martinez and Juan Reyes. He retired in 2020.

He was devoted to his Catholic faith and his patron saint was Saint Michael the Archangel. Lung cancer took him away, but his legacy of building a strong loving family will live forever.

His parents preceded him in death as well as a brother, Freddie Martinez, and a son Jason Contreras.

Steve is survived by his wife Vickey; his daughters Elaine Day and her husband Justin and Monica Glenn and her husband Taylor, all of Amarillo; his son Loren Martinez of Dallas; his sisters, Gloria Olvera, Rosa Martinez, Angelina Garcia, and Sylvia Bunch and his brothers, Anthony Martinez, and Jessie Martinez; his precious grandchildren, Emilie, Ethan, Elliott, Oliver, Sierra, Isaac, Krista and 27 nieces and nephews.
