The Conroe Celebration of Life will be Monday, August 8, 2022. A brief graveside service will be held at Copeland Chapel Cemetery at 10 am where Surcy will be laid by his father and grandparents. Following will be a Celebration of Life at Metcalf Funeral Home in Conroe at 11:00 am. Again, the family asks a come and go sharing of Surcy anecdotes.

Surcy Lee Peoples III was born March 13, 1973, at the Montgomery County Hospital in Conroe, TX, to Surcy Lee Peoples, Jr. and Frances Knight Peoples. He attended school in Conroe his entire life. He was quite active in sports, 4-H, FFA, and the arts. He was the center for the football team throughout high school and participated in many other sports. He was quite active in 4-H and FFA, all 4 years, serving as officers in his local region. He won various awards in both 4-H and FFA and excelled in showmanship and scholarships.

Surcy was an honor student in school and graduated in the top 5% of his class in high school. After graduation, he attended Texas A&M University at College Station and received both his Bachelor’s and Master’s Degree in Agriculture.

Surcy began his career after graduation at Nebraska Cattleman’s Association, by authoring articles for their publications and hosting a daily farm radio show. Then he worked as Director of Commercial Marketing for the American Gelbvieh Association in Denver. He then moved to Amarillo and started his career at Cactus Feeders in 2000. He started his own company J2 Entrepreneurs LLC in 2019 and became Director of Operations for Central Stockyards LLC until his death.

Surcy married Heather Underwood in 2000 and they later divorced. But, into this marriage was born the pride and joy of his life – Surcy Lee Peoples IV.   He supported all of his son’s activities.  He was a man of service and kindness to his neighborhood and community.  He supported the following organizations in the Canyon/Amarillo area:  Potter and Randall County Jr. Livestock Associations, Canyon FFA and Barbecue Team, WT Ag Days and Emi’s Color Shoot. In 2020 he reconnected with a former A&M Ag friend. In May 2022, he married the love of his life, Amy Blankenship Hernandez.

He was preceded into heaven by his father Surcy Lee Peoples, Jr. and his grandparents: Surcy Lee Peoples, Sr. and wife Benita; Rev. Walter Woodrow Knight and wife Feby Mae. He is survived by his son Surcy Lee Peoples IV, his wife Amy Peoples, and his mother Frances Knight Peoples, his bonus son Christian Hernandez, and his bonus daughter Maria Hernandez as well as numerous cousins, aunts, and uncles.

Surcy was a bright light that burned out too quickly. He had a big heart of gold, an outstanding personality, and a happy heart. He brought love, laughter, and happiness to all he encountered. God needed someone to make him laugh, so he chose Surcy Lee Peoples III to join him in heaven.
