Tim Gruver, age 76, of Amarillo, passed away on November 1, 2026, in Amarillo.
The family will receive guests on Thursday, November 5, 2026, from 6:00 PM until 7:00 PM at Schooler Funeral Home, 4100 S. Georgia. A funeral service to honor and celebrate Tim's life will be held on Friday, November 6, 2026, at 1:00 PM. Burial will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery.
Tim was born on October 8, 1950, in Amarillo, Texas, to Wesley Dale and Dorothy Collins Gruver. He graduated from Amarillo High School in 1969 and continued his education at Amarillo College. On June 1, 1971, he married Christy Huddleston in Amarillo, beginning a lifetime of love, family, and treasured memories.
As a young man, Tim worked as a welder for both Bell Helicopter and Halliburton. He later transitioned into the flooring industry, working for Casey Carpet, Gowdy Carpet, and most recently A-1 Flooring. After a long and successful career, he retired in 2011 as a commercial estimator. Tim was a hardworking man who took pride in providing for his family. He was a devoted husband, a loving father, and a grandfather who absolutely adored his grandchildren.
Tim had three great loves in life: his family, hunting and archery, and, of course, anything sweet! While some people consider hunting a hobby, for Tim, it was truly a way of life. His passion for the outdoors was something he eagerly shared with those he loved, especially his son, Jarrod. From an early age, Tim taught Jarrod to hunt, passing along not only his knowledge and skills but also a deep appreciation for the outdoors. He even tried to convince his daughter, Heather, to join in the hunting adventures, but she decided she would much rather bake!
For nearly 42 years, Tim and Jarrod hunted side by side. What began as a father teaching his son became a remarkable friendship and partnership, one built on mutual respect, shared adventures, countless memories, and an unbreakable bond. Those years in the field together were about far more than hunting; they were about the precious gift of time spent together. Tim also cherished the many hunting trips to Clarendon with his forever son-in-law, Joe.
Tim's enthusiasm for archery was just as impressive as his love of hunting. He served as president of the Palo Duro Bow Hunters Club and competed in archery tournaments for more than 28 years. His dedication and skill earned him an impressive collection of trophies, many of which proudly filled the family home. And thanks to his success in the field, the family freezers were rarely empty!
Although Tim was an avid hunter, he also had a tremendous love and respect for wildlife and all of God's creatures.. His love for animals extended well beyond the hunting field, especially when it came to his beloved dogs. Throughout his life, Tim was blessed with many faithful canine companions, especially dear to him were his puppies, Pancho and Tippy.
And then there was Tim's sweet tooth! To say he enjoyed sweets would be an understatement. He had a genuine appreciation for anything that could satisfy his craving for a little sugar. Whether it was a homemade dessert, a piece of candy, or some other sweet treat, Tim was rarely one to turn it down. AndTim seemed to have a coffee cup permanently attached to his hand. Morning, noon, or night, a good cup of coffee was simply part of who he was.
Tim was preceded in death by his parents, Wesley Dale and Dorothy Collins Gruver; and his two brothers, Randy and Danny Gruver.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 55 years, Christy; his son, hunting partner, and best friend, Jarrod Gruver; his beautiful daughter, Heather Bilbrey; his four grandchildren, Tell, Sye, and Kree Laing, and Briar Gonzales; and his nine great-grandchildren, Beckham, Sterling, Stetson, Amelia, Ritchie, Josie, Emma, Micah, and Finn.
