Tomi Nell Townsend entered the gates of Heaven on June 25, 2026, surrounded by the love of her family and welcomed into the eternal presence of her Lord.
The family will receive friends on Monday, June 29, from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. at Schooler Funeral Home, 4100 South Georgia. A memorial service celebrating Tomi Nell's life will be held Tuesday, June 30, at 11:00 a.m. at First Presbyterian Church, 1100 South Harrison, with Dr. Murray Gossett officiating. A private interment will be at Memorial Park Cemetery.
Born on January 17, 1942, in Amarillo, Tomi Nell was the beloved daughter of Thomas and Bonnie Cook Pitt. On August 30, 1963, she married John William Townsend, in Amarillo.
For many years, Tomi Nell faithfully attended Hillside Christian Church before recently becoming a member of First Presbyterian Church. Her faith was reflected not only in where she worshipped but in the way she lived each day—with kindness, grace, and genuine compassion for others.
To know Tomi Nell was to know unconditional love. She was welcoming, encouraging, nonjudgmental, and endlessly supportive. She had a remarkable gift for making others feel seen, valued, and loved. Her greatest joy was her family. She loved her children and grandchildren fiercely, giving of herself sacrificially and wholeheartedly. She was the steady heart of her family—a constant source of strength, wisdom, comfort, and unwavering love. Her legacy will live on in the countless lives she touched through her generosity, gentle spirit, and faithful example.
Tomi Nell was preceded in death by her parents; and her brothers-in-law, C.W..Siess and Carter Carr; her nephew Budd Siess; and a special aunt and uncle that raised her, Otto and Virginia Pitt.
Tomi Nell is survived by her sons, Bryan Allen Townsend of Houston and Douglas Brady Townsend and wife Sara of Amarillo; her two sisters, Geraldine Siess and Lucy Carr both of Amarillo; and two grandchildren, Austin and Ashley Townsend.
