Vickie Sue (Smith) Shackelford, 68, of Amarillo, passed peacefully on September 14, 2024.
A graveside service will be held on Friday, September 20, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. at Memorial Park Cemetery, 6969 E. Interstate 40, with Teddy Alward presiding. Arrangements are in the care of Schooler Funeral Home.
Vickie was born on September 26, 1955, in Lubbock, Texas, to William H. and Ida Belle (Taylor) Smith. She graduated from Kress High School and married Jesse Shackelford in Amarillo, Texas, in 1979. Together, they planted their roots in the Texas Panhandle and raised their two children.
By trade, Vickie had the most demanding job of all, being a homemaker. She worked tirelessly ensuring the children were taken care of, maintaining the house, occasionally griping at Jesse, and giving him a hard time when the “honey do’s” were getting behind. She spent many hours in the kitchen whipping up fabulous meals for her family and anyone who needed a bite to eat. She loved to cook and was incredible at it. Vickie truly cared for others more than herself. She had a giving spirit and would be there for anyone in need. It was her own personal ministry.
Aside from her love of all things home, she found great joy in being a sports fan. Whether it be the horsepower of NASCAR or her love for the Dallas Cowboys, Vickie truly enjoyed a good race, match, or game.
Vickie is preceded in death by her parents, brothers Arlie J. Walker and Glen Smith, and a sister, Ida L. Helms, and a brother-in-law, Rudolph Ebeling. Those left to cherish her memories are her beloved husband Jesse, daughter Shannon Shackelford and David, son Justin Shackelford, sister Jane Ebeling, brother Terry Smith, grandchildren Noah Peel and Jordan Shackelford, and many loving extended family and dear friends.
