Virgil James " Jim " Jordan Jr.

Virgil James “Jim” Jordan Jr, 93, of Amarillo, passed peacefully on December 3, 2025.

A graveside service will be held on Thursday, December 11, 2025, at 11 am, at Llano Cemetery with Deacon Mark White of St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church presiding.

Jim was born on November 1, 1932, in Plainview, Texas to Virgil Sr and Irma Lucille Jordan. He was a 1950 graduate of Dumas High School. Following High School, he attended Amarillo College and then The University of Texas. Following a 33 year career with the City of Amarillo Water Reclamation Plant, Jim devoted his retirement to photography and community volunteering with many different organizations which included Amarillo Opera Bravo and Board, Amarillo Panhandle Humane Society, Catholic Family Services Board, Amarillo Museum of Art Board, The Amarillo College Southern Light Photography Gallery, The Amarillo Opportunity School which he was incredibly passionate about; and many other organizations throughout the Amarillo and surrounding communities.

Jim commissioned two original compositions for the Chamber Music Amarillo, and also donated a 130-piece art collection of works on paper to the Amarillo Museum of Art. He did extensive photograph documentation on Landscapes and Architecture throughout the Southwest, which he organized into many formal exhibitions. These were displayed throughout the panhandle. Much of his work is included in the Permanent Collection of the Amarillo Museum of Art and Panhandle Plains Historical Museum.

Jim is preceded in death by his parents, his sister, Carolyn Sue Belew, and his dearest friend, Vivian Procopio. Those left to cherish his memory are his nephew, Mark Belew and his family, as well as many extended family and cherished friends from his years of volunteerism and other ventures.
