Virginia Ann (Young) Wasson

Virginia Ann (Young) Wasson, 84, of Amarillo, passed peacefully on February 8, 2024.

The family will receive guests at Schooler Funeral Home, 4100 S. Georgia, on Sunday, February 11, 2024, from 1pm to 4pm. Funeral Services will be held on Monday, February 12, 2024, at 2pm at Second Baptist Church, 419 N. Buchanan with Pastor Wayne Griffin presiding.

Virginia was born on June 14, 1939, in Amarillo to James W. and Floretta R. (Christie) Young. She graduated from Amarillo High School in 1957 and graduated from West Texas State Teacher’s College in 1962 (WTAMU).

She married Gary H. Wasson on August 25, 1962, and together they built their family. They would spend 48 years devoted to each other until Gary’s passing in September of 2010.

She was a long-time member of Second Baptist Church, American Business Women's Association, Potter Extension Services, TOPS, and River Road Senior Citizens Club.

Virginia is preceded in death by parents JW Young, Jr. and Floretta Young, brother Buck Allen Young and husband Gary Hayden Wasson, and nephew Mark Allen Young. Those left to cherish her memories are her daughter Ann Kathleen Johnson and son Gary Michael Wasson, son-in-law Gordon Ray Johnson and grand-daughter Christina Ann Marie Willburn all of Amarillo, brother Jim Young and sister-in-law Linda Kay Young of Amarillo and brother Dale Young and sister-in-law Kayla Young of White Settlement, Texas, nephew Richard Craig Young and wife of Amarillo, and niece Laura Kay Hodnett of Cleburn, Texas and two great nephews and nieces
