Amarillo

Wanda Maxine Clemmer, 89, died on February 13, 2023.  Wanda was born January 7, 1934 in Spearman, Texas to Willis Eldred Sheets and Nellie Lee Perkins Sheets. She grew up in the Canyon/Amarillo area with 6 brothers and 4 sisters. She was a graduate of Canyon High School and attended both West Texas State University and Cal State, Fullerton.

Wanda moved to California in the early 1960s and worked for TWA as a reservations/ticket agent.  She married Jim Clubb and they began their family.  She became a stay at home mom giving her love and care to her son, Carey. After her divorce from her first husband, Wanda reconnected with Buford Clemmer, a college friend, who she married on August 23, 1974 and together they blended their families and raised 3 children. Her children say of her “an absolutely incredible mother she was and is.”

Once the children were older, Wanda earned her teaching credentials and began substitute teaching in the Pomona School District in CA.  In early 2000s, Wanda and her husband, Buford Clemmer, moved back to Amarillo where many of their family members lived.

Wanda enjoyed so many creative hobbies including sewing and knitting. For many, many years she played bridge weekly with a group of women. Wanda greatly enjoyed SKIPBO with her grandkids; puzzles; and basically all table type games.

Wanda enjoyed traveling and did all she could during her days at TWA.  She liked all colors yet seemed to favor red. She and Buford had a dog named Gus and one of her other favorite animals were elephants. Wanda enjoyed the taste of grapefruit and cantaloupe and drinking her coffee in the morning.

Wanda is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Buford Clemmer; brothers, Wiley Eldred, Donald Ernest, Marion Shirley, and Joe Roy; her sisters, Letha Magdalene and Fadona Grace.

She is survived by daughter, Jane Frances Clemmer; son, Charles Wayne Clemmer; son, Carey Ray Clubb and wife, Kathy; Sisters, Peggy Ann Woods and Wilma Lee Cornette; brothers, Jess Will Sheets and Jody Gene Sheets; six grandchildren - Garret and Tiffany Clubb; Michael, Kevyn, Chaz and Maverick Clemmer.
