Winnell “Pit” Shaw, age 85 of Amarillo entered the Gates of Heaven on January 10, 2022.
An inurnment service will be held on Tuesday, January 18 at 11:00 AM at Memorial Park Cemetery, East Mausoleum.
The Rev. Jim Shelburne will officiate. Arrangements are by Schooler Funeral Home, 4100 South Georgia.
Winnell was born on September 11, 1936 in Gruver, Texas to her parents, Ed and Winnie Boyd Vernon. She was an amazing woman who exhibited strength and toughness throughout her life. She was a caring, patient and an involved mother and grandmother. One of her best attributes was listening, she made her family and friends feel important as she listened about the day’s events in their life.
Winnell could play the piano and loved music. She was quick witted and her essence brightened the room. She was a member of Washington Avenue Christian Church.
Winnell was preceded in death by her parents, by a son, Dave Oakes; a grandson, Eric Oakes; two sisters and one brother.
She is survived by her three daughters, Pam Oakes, Teresa Beasley, and Jan Hassinger and her husband Mark all of Amarillo; her brother, Roger Vernon of Houston; by three grandchildren, Aaron Oakes, Matthew Beasley, Audrey Holgerson and her husband Jim; and eight great-grandchildren.
Memorials may be made to Washington Avenue Christian Church or any charity supporting Animal Welfare.
