Zola Ann Short

Zola Ann Kurts Short was born to Harold and Mable Kurts on April 25, 1947, in Hotchkiss Co. She passed on February 7, 2024, at her home in Amarillo, TX. The family of three moved to the Texas Panhandle in 1948.

Visitation will be held on Friday, 2/9/2024, from 4pm- 5:30pm, at Schooler Funeral Home, 4100 S Georgia St. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, 2/10/2024, at 11am, at Christian Heritage Church, 900 S Nelson, with Pastor Craig Lawlis officiating. Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery.

Zola was the oldest of her six siblings. She was preceded in death by her parents Harold and Mable Kurts and her sister Esther Kurts Hickam.

Zola graduated from Dumas High School in 1965. She married Everett Short on March 10, 1967, and divorced in December 1979. They had two daughters, Jana Goodman, and Darla Goodman. They settled in Amarillo, TX.

She moved to Phoenix AZ in 1988 and to Seattle, WA in the early 2000’s. Then back to Amarillo in 2010 when she retired.

She enjoyed selling Christmas Around the World for several years.  She was always a social butterfly.  She loved playing bingo, dominos, bunco, and online games with friends.  She participated in Primetimers at church, Red Hats ladies, a monthly lunch with her friends from high school, being an ambassador to new residents at Brookdale Living Center, and the Southwest Parkinsons Support Group.  Travel was her favorite pastime; traveling with friends and family.

She is survived by her daughters and their families, Jana & Bobby Goodman of Amarillo, TX, and Darla & Carl Goodman of Galveston, TX. Her six grandchildren: Cassidy Shafer of Amarillo, TX; Carla Goodman of Lubbock, TX; James and Britney Goodman of Lubbock, TX; Robert Skylar and Cheyenne Goodman of Lubbock, TX; Matthew and Destiny Goodman of Fritch, TX, and Daniel Goodman and Caitlyn Sprous, of Lubbock TX; Sixteen great-grandchildren and one due in April 2024.  Her four siblings:  Carolyn Raney of Austin TX, Steve and Linda Kurts of Amarillo TX, Mary Meyers of Grangeville, ID, and Jim Kurts of Amarillo TX; as well as 16 nieces and nephews.
