Bernetta S. Owens, 96, of Amarillo died December 27, 2018.

Rosary will be said at 6:00 p.m., Sunday, December 30, 2018 at Schooler Funeral Home Brentwood Chapel, 4100 S. Georgia St. Funeral mass will be celebrated at 2:00 p.m., Monday, December 31, 2018 at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church, 4100 Coulter St. Burial will follow in Llano Cemetery. Arrangements by Schooler Funeral Home.

Bernetta was born April 27, 1922 in Garden Plains, KS to August and Mary Albers. She was the youngest of 8 children. She worked for Allis-Chalmers until she met A.T. Owens. They married on April 14, 1966 and together owned and operated Reitman Lumber until retirement. Bernetta was the past president at BPW (Business and Professional Women). She also enjoyed volunteering with the Lady’s Auxillary at St. Anthony’s Hospital, BSA and spent many years reading with elementary age students. Bernetta was a longtime founding member of St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church.  The family would like to thank the American Council of the Blind in providing her support to live independently the last few years.

She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, A.T. Owens; step-son, Mike Owens; 4 brothers; 3 sisters; and several nieces and nephews.

Bernetta is survived by nephew, P.K. Craig and extended Renner Family; The Pace Family; step-daughter, Mary Dean Sipes and husband Tony; many step-grandchildren and step-great grandchildren.

The family suggests memorials be made to St. Thomas Catholic Church or the American Council for the Blind of Texas.
