Betty Lay Proctor

Betty Lay Proctor, 74, of Amarillo died September 10, 2021.

Visitation will be from 5-7:00 p.m., Saturday, September 18, 2021 at Schooler Funeral Home, 4100 S. Georgia St. Funeral service will be at 2:00 p.m., Sunday, September 19, 2021 at the funeral home. Private interment will be in Llano Cemetery. Arrangements are by Schooler Funeral Home.

Betty was born in Stephenville, Texas on November 23, 1946 to Willard and Joyce Lay. She was the oldest among her siblings, Randy, Patricia, and Willard Jr.  Betty married James Michael Proctor on September 26, 1969. She had four children, Carroll Jr., Gary, Kelly, and Angela.

Betty was hard-working her whole life and shared the strong work ethic of her husband, which was passed to their children. While living in Austin, she worked in make ready, cleaning newly constructed homes.

Later she became a caterer. Betty handled formal catering, food trucks and concession stands for main events. Betty had quite the fan base for the food she served, as well as her charismatic personality.

The family moved to Irving, TX where she was employed as an office manager for her brother, Randy’s company until moving to Amarillo, TX to help care for her mother in-law and father in-law.

In Amarillo, Betty worked as a store manager for Toot n’ Totum for 20 years until her retirement.

Betty was preceded in death by her father, Willard Lay; her mother, Joyce Lay; her brother, Randy Lay; and niece, Becky Ann Hill.

Betty was survived by her husband, Mike Proctor; son, Carroll Lingle, Jr. and wife Elania; son, Gary Lingle; daughter, Kelly Proctor Lewis; daughter, Angela Rodriguez-Reyna and husband Roger; sister, Patricia Hammett and husband Larry; brother, Willard Lay, Jr. and wife Debbie; eight grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
