Bryan Marshall Calhoun

Bryan Marshall Calhoun, 70, of Cedar Crest, NM passed away in Amarillo on June 12th, 2022 following a brief illness.

A memorial will be held at a later date.

Bryan was born on February 19th, 1952 to O. M. and Elizabeth Calhoun and attended Amarillo Public Schools along with his older sisters Cathy and Marsha.  He graduated from Tascosa High School in 1970.  He was a fun-loving guy, athletic and the life of the party.  He made many life-long friends.

In May 1974 he began work at the Santa Fe Railroad.  While working full-time he earned an Associates Degree in Electronics Technology, and used that knowledge in his work with the railroad. His proudest professional achievement included being presented two Cyrus K. Holliday awards during a ceremony at the Shedd Aquarium in Chicago.  After promoting through the ranks for more than three decades he retired in 2013.

Bryan married Joyce McDaniel in 1980 at St. Paul Methodist Church.  They raised their daughter and son in Amarillo.  At the time of his retirement, he had lived in Cedar Crest, New Mexico where he enjoyed the wildlife, especially the hummingbirds, woodworking, playing golf, and spending time with family and his dogs, Jake II, and Chili.  He and Joyce had many adventures in their motorhome all across the country including a memorable trip to Alaska.

His family and friends will always remember his fun-loving spirit and optimistic attitude, and willingness to always lend a helping hand when he could.

He is survived by his wife Joyce of the home, his daughter Carly Dobbins and her husband Dave; his son Nick and his wife Chrystal of Amarillo; two sisters, Cathy Barkley and her husband Danny of Duncanville, and Marsha Singer and her husband Bill of Dallas; his five grandchildren, Abby, Taylor, Riley, Aubree, Brynlee, and a step-grandson Chase.
