On Wednesday, April 19, 2017 Carmen heard the Lord’s call, took His hand and left behind our earthly world to be with Him.

Rosary will be said at 5:00 p.m., Friday, April 21, 2017 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church. Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, April 22, 2017 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church with Rev. Lawrence John as celebrant. Burial will follow in Llano Cemetery. Arrangements are by Schooler Funeral Home, 4100 S. Georgia, Amarillo, Texas 79110.

Carmen was born November 4, 1950 in Raymondville, Texas to Hipolito “Polo” Oviedo, Sr. and Adalberta “Berta” Oviedo. She graduated from  the University of Texas at Pan American.

Carmen taught elementary school level for over 34 years. Her early teaching years were in Edinburg and later Raymondville. The last 26 years she taught with the Amarillo Independent School District at Forrest Hill Elementary, Carver Elementary Academy, Carver Early Childhood Academy, and following initial retirement, at St. Joseph Catholic Elementary & Montessori School. She was also a certified foreign language teacher.

Carmen was an active member with Our Lady of Guadalupe Circle, St. Joseph Day Care Board, and was a foster parent for the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services. She enjoyed volunteer work, reading and traveling.

She was preceded in death by her father, Polo Oviedo, Sr.; her brother, Higinio Oviedo; and an infant grandson, Michael Julio Morin.

Carmen is survived by her son, Michael David Morin; her mother, Berta Oviedo; four sisters, Angie Johnson and husband C.B. Johnson III of Flower Mound, Texas, Lourdes Cantu and husband Juan Cantu of Harlingen, Texas, Terry Cruz and husband Trinidad Cruz of Amarillo, Texas, and Rosalinda Oviedo-Gomez and husband Rene Gomez of Amarillo, Texas; three brothers, Juan Oviedo and wife Linda of Leslie, Michigan, Polo Oviedo Jr. of Amarillo, Texas, and David Oviedo and wife Rachel of Hotchkiss, Co; and her nieces, nephews and grandnephews, Marisol (Brea), Gina (Stephen, Gina Maria), Melissa (Ali, Adri, Jaden), Juan Daniel (Juan Antonio, Mia, Carmen Lynn, Alex, Sonny), Ricardo (Ava, Santana), Angie Marie, David O (Nickolas, Nichole), Justin (Easton, Nia), David H, Andrew P and Analisa.
