Cheryl Louise Dutton

July 7, 1946 — July 26, 2022

Amarillo, Texas

Cheryl Louise Dutton, 76, passed peacefully at her home in Amarillo, Texas on July 26th, 2022.

Cheryl was born July 7th, 1946 to Sylvester and Mary Ann Herricks in Upland, California.  While growing up, she lived in Rice Lake, Wisconsin and then Midland, Texas.  She received her diploma from Robert E. Lee High School and then received a B.S. in Art Education from West Texas State University in 1968.  During her studies, she met Don Steven Dutton of Amarillo. The two wed on May 31, 1969, in Lubbock, Texas, and were married for 38 years before his passing in 2007.

Upon graduating, Cheryl began her ardent teaching career which lasted for more than 30 years.  In addition to her passion for education, Cheryl always showed a love for the simplest joys in life.  She was a talented artist, baker, and an avid gardener.  Her leisure time was always filled by walks with friends and long, neighborly talks on the patio.  Cheryl could always bring a smile or laugh to anyone’s face, even during her final days spent with friends and family.

Cheryl was preceded in death by her husband, Steve, and her parents.  She is survived by her loving partner, Noel Clemens of Pampa; her eldest son, Greg Dutton of Seattle, Washington, middle son and wife, Jeff and Rhonda Dutton of Plano; and youngest son and wife, Tony and Amee Dutton of Amarillo; her four grandchildren, Connor, Cali, Sloane, and Sam; her sisters, Vicki Spencer of Paducah, Kentucky and Marsha Moreland of Bayfield, Colorado; and her brother, Gary Herricks of Lafayette, Louisiana.

In lieu of flowers, please donate to Amarillo’s Downtown Women’s Center on Cheryl’s behalf.
