Delk Keith Watson

December 18, 1957 — September 30, 2022

Delk Keith Watson, age 64, went to be with the Lord on 9/30/22 after a valiant fight with prostate cancer.  He was born on December 18, 1957, to K Bert and Joy Watson in Amarillo, Texas.   Delk graduated from Canyon High School (near Amarillo) in 1976 and attended University of Texas.  He worked at Broadwing and Asuragen.  He got his real estate brokerage license and used it many times in the last twenty years.

He was married to Michelle Sheffield on June 25, 2011, and they embraced life together.  They blended two families. His previous marriage was to Ruth Ann Gaus on June 22, 1985.  Delk and Ruth had two children: Shaelyn Joy Watson and Travis Karl Watson.  After marrying Michelle, he increased his family with two stepchildren: Evan Joseph Johnston and Seth Michael Johnston Catron.

Delk was a kind, caring, genuine, and resilient and committed family man.  He was known as forward thinking and planning, with MacGyver qualities.  He leaves behind many close friends and relatives.  We will miss his positive spirit, which was a blessing to all.  We will also miss his love of being at the Ranch, and his desire to find the next fun time.  He completed many bucket list items in the last 5 years.

He leaves behind his beloved wife Michelle of Hudson Bend, his children Travis Watson (Grapevine, Texas), Shaelyn Watson (San Francisco, California), and stepsons Evan Johnston, and Seth Catron (husband-Corey).  He is also survived by his siblings: Sandy Watson(sister) and brothers: Randy Watson (wife-Annette), Ken Watson (wife-Creta), David Watson (wife-Janet). He also leaves five nephews and five nieces along with their significant others and children.  His brother-in-law Ben Sheffield (wife-Lori) and sister-in-law Leslee Sheffield were also very close. Not to be forgotten are his dogs:  Cy and Dex. He is joining Chatter, Chipp, and Tex in Heaven.

Of special note, his niece, Jennifer Fisher, and her children: Emerson, Kylenn, and Taryn gave him the experience of being a grandfather – Papa D.  This gave him much joy.  Also of special significance are his lifetime friends: Jim Wagner and Mike Huerta.  Courtney Smith, (Travis’ significant other), has been an amazing help to the family through this time.

The doctors at MD Anderson and Texas Oncology, Hospice, and the care nurses were essential and amazing in their care of Delk and the family. His body has been donated to Science Care for medical research.  The memorial service will take place 11/6/2022 at 1PM CST. The location is 6000 Longhorn Landing Austin, TX 78734 (Lands’ End Park.) Private burial will take place at Lonesome Cedar Ranch at a date to be determined. In lieu of flowers please make donations to MD Anderson Cancer Research or American Cancer Society.
