Diane Jones May

April 14, 1961 — November 14, 2021

Amarillo

Diane Jones May, 60, of Amarillo, Texas, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, November 14, 2021 in Perkins, Oklahoma.

The daughter of Lloyd and Dorothy Jones, Diane was born April 14, 1961 in Guymon, Oklahoma and was raised in Goodwell, Oklahoma. She attended Goodwell schools her whole life and graduated with the Goodwell Eagle class of 1979. She then attended Oklahoma Panhandle State University and graduated in 1983. Diane excelled in school and was always proud that she was able to maintain a 4.0 GPA during high school and college. Diane loved to play basketball and played forward for the Goodwell Eagles when it was played 6 on 6. She was a high scorer and ferocious under the basket, as well as having a very accurate jump shot - winning many honors for her play. She also played basketball for the Oklahoma Panhandle State Lady Aggies. She played 5 on 5 full court then which was an adjustment for her, but she fell right into it.

Diane married Randy L. May on May 9th, 1986 in Amarillo, Texas at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church. Diane was an active member of St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church where she was a lector at Mass, attended Bible study classes, attended weekly Eucharistic Adoration and volunteered help for the church whenever it was needed. She worked for State Farm Insurance for 30+ years. Diane had so many interests. She was an avid reader and she loved music, especially Florence and The Machine. Diane was a member of the Roadrunners running group. She ran the Oklahoma City Marathon as well as several half marathons in different locations with her friends. Diane also enjoyed cycling – she loved and was so proud of her bicycle, Florence. She had cycled 75 miles in the MS 150 bike race. She also participated in a Triathlon in Oklahoma City, in which she rode the cycling leg.

She recently became interested in caterpillars and butterflies and raised several and freed the beautiful butterflies into the sky. She had planned to do more of that in the future.

Diane is survived by her husband Randy L. May of Amarillo, Texas. She dearly loved her cats Rocket Man, Lucy Belle and Weasel. She is also survived by four sisters: Judy Jones Arnold (Jim) of Kingsville, Texas, Karen Jones O'Neill of Edmond, Oklahoma, Barbara Jones Cunningham (Rodney) of Alva, Oklahoma and Mary Anne Burdo (Ben) of Guymon, Oklahoma; one brother, Michael Jones (Mary) of Elizabethtown, Kentucky and by numerous loving nieces and nephews and cousins as well.

Diane was preceded in death by her parents, Lloyd R. and Dorothy M. (Duryea) Jones and her sister, Kathy Jones Nicks.
