Don Ray Sims, Sr.

Don Ray Sims, 66, of Amarillo died March 7, 2018.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, March 10, 2018 at New Hope Baptist Church, 1305 NW 9th. Burial will follow in Llano Cemetery. Arrangements are by Schooler Funeral Home, 4100 S. Georgia St.

Don Ray Sims, Sr. was born March 15, 1951 to Jessie T and Glouris Sims. On July 25, 1970 he married Elaine Thompson. To this union two children were born, Don Ray, Jr. and Ebonye Kilgore.

He was a member of New Hope Baptist Church for Many years. He was chairman of the trustees, and assistant treasurer of the finance committee, choir and the brotherhood.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Elaine; parents, Jessie T and Glouris Sims; and a brother, Ernest Sims.

Don is survived by his son, Don Ray, Jr. and wife Stacy of Amarillo; daughter, Ebonye Kilgore of Amarillo; one granddaughter, Paige; three grandsons, Sebastian, Jamal and DaShawn; one great-grandson, Nathaniel; five brothers, Herbert Sims and wife Gloria of Lubbock, Jessie T. Sims, Jr. of Matador, Carlton Sims and wife Carolyn of Lubbock, Forrest Sims of Peblo, CO and Clayton Sims of Matador; seven sisters, Jessie Mae Brown, Erma McCuen and husband Arthur of Lubbock, Joyce Roberson and husband Vernon of Slaton, Jewel Thompson  and husband James of Burleson, Glouris Pitts of Plainview, Paulette Henry and husband Harvey of Dallas, and Vivian Campbell and husband Charlie of Midland; one uncle, Henry Lee Sims; and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.
