Donald "Don" J. Harrington

Don J. Harrington, age 89 entered the gates of Heaven on June 15, 2022 in Grand Rapids, Michigan

The family will gather to celebrate his life in the chapel of First Presbyterian Church on Saturday, August 13th at 10:00 AM.

Don was privately interred at Memory Gardens Cemetery in Amarillo.  Arrangements are by Schooler Funeral Home, 4100 South Georgia.

Don was born June 26, 1932 in Grand Rapids, Michigan to John Clair and Ethel Marie Hull Harrington.  He was a graduate of Creston High School before serving in the US Air Force.

In 1956 Don began a career with Southwestern Bell that would last until 1984 and continue on with AT&T until his retirement in 1984.   After retirement he owned and operated Don’s Phone service for ten years.

The family moved to Poteau, Oklahoma where he enjoyed fishing the beautiful lakes and streams and was active in the Southside Baptist Church there in Poteau.

Don had a love for motorcycles, camping and of course the Detroit Tigers.  He was a devoted Christian with and strong faith and love of God. He cherished time with his family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Edith Ann Harrington and his two brothers, John and Richard Harrington.

He is survived by three sons, Mike Harrington of Amarillo, Mark Harrington and his wife Mila of Ft. Smith, Arkansas and Matt Harrington and his wife Tammy also of Amarillo; his sister Marilyn Kryger of Grand Rapids, Michigan; three grandchildren, Dustin, Amanda and her husband Keith Moore and Ashley; and four great grandchildren, Kamryn, Michael, James and Mackenzie Moore; and a daughter-in-law, Brenda Harrington.
