Mary Edith Marcum

March 16, 1932 — June 30, 2017

Memorial Service will be 3:00 PM Wednesday, July 5, 2017 at St. Stephen United Methodist Church with Rev. Jim Smith as officiant.  Private burial will be in Llano Cemetery.  Arrangements are by Schooler Funeral Home, 4100 S. Georgia.

Mary Edith Marcum went to be with her Lord and Savior on June 30th, 2017.   She was born March 16, 1932 in Memphis to Clifford and Ruby Compton.  She graduated from Memphis High School in 1949 and was the football sweetheart and Valedictorian.  She married Wayland Eugene Marcum Sr. on November 12, 1950 and moved to Amarillo.  This union produced four sons, Gene, Joe David, Steve, and Barry.   As her boys grew older, she worked for J C Penny downtown for two years. Then went to work for Amarillo Independent School District and retired in 1998 after 27 years.  She was a member of St. Stephen United Methodist Church.She was preceded in death by her husband on February 2, 2007, and a grandson, Jacob on October 12, 1989.  Her son, Barry Marcum passed away on July 1, 2017.

She is survived by her sons, Gene Marcum and wife, Jackie of Amarillo, Joe David Marcum and wife, Jan of Canyon, and Steve Marcum and wife, Gail of Albuquerque;  her sister, Doris Ayers of Borger; her grandchildren, Amy Barnes and husband, Kenny, Adam Marcum and wife, Jennifer, Felicia Bellis and husband, Josh Gerken, Michal-ann Bell and husband, Cary, Jeremiah Marcum and wife, Janet, Seth Marcum and wife, Katie, Joseph Marcum, Olivia Richardson and husband, Christian, Breanna Griffiths and husband, Brad, and Alexandra Vavruska;  eight great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
