Edward Joseph Venhaus, loving husband and father of three passed away on Sunday, March 21, 2021 at the age of 84.
Rosary will be said at 6:00 p.m., Thursday, March 25, 2021, at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church, 4100 S. Coulter Street. Funeral mass will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m., Friday, March 26, 2021, at the church with Rev. John Valdez as celebrant. Private burial will be at Llano Cemetery.
Edward, known as “Ed” or “Eddie” was born on October 23, 1936 in Canyon, Texas to George and Marie (Hollenstein) Venhaus. He was the oldest of eleven children and grew up on a dairy farm in Happy, Texas. In 1958, Ed joined the Air Force and was stationed in Greenland where he specialized in radio repair on B47 Bombers. He was discharged in 1962 right after the Cuban Missile Crisis.
On April 28, 1965, he married Charlene Ann Hoelting and raised one daughter, Lisa and two sons, Curtis and Shawn. Ed retired from Bell Helicopter and promptly started working part-time at Brown Automotive Group where he worked until January of this year.
Eddie was a quiet man with an infectious smile and the best laugh; he was kind with a compassionate spirit. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus for nearly 50 years and enjoyed their fellowship while serving his community and church.
Edward was preceded in death by his parents. Edward is survived by his wife, Charlene; daughter, Lisa and husband Jeff Gray; sons Curtis Venhaus and Shawn Venhaus; granddaughters, Alie Venhaus and Nicole Gray; grandsons, Nathan Gray and Daniel Gray of Amarillo, Taylor Gray and wife Cristina of Houston, and great-grandson Leo Jon Gray.
The family has requested that remembrances be made in the form of contributions to the High Plains Food Bank.
