Georgann Hinson, age 78, of Groom, passed away May 15, 2018, at her home surrounded by her loving family.

Rosary will be said at 6:30 PM, Thursday, May 17, 2018, at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church in Groom.  Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 AM, Friday, May 18, 2018 also at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church in Groom.  Funeral arrangements are by Schooler Funeral Home, Amarillo, TX.

Georgann Britten was born on February 5, 1940, in Groom, Texas, the third child of Leo Matthew Britten and Marietta George Britten. She graduated from Groom High School and attended Texas Tech University, obtaining a B.S. in Business Education and later, her Master's Degree at West Texas State University.  Her 30-year high school teaching career included Dimmitt, Canyon, Phoenix, AZ, Amarillo (Amarillo High and Tascosa High),  Perryton, and Groom where she retired in May of 2000.  Teaching was a passion for her and she had a lasting impact on the lives of thousands of young people.  She taught business courses in the classroom, but she also taught her students the principals of life, a strong work ethic, and the importance of values and good moral character.

While teaching in Arizona, she met and married the love of her life, William “Bill” Hinson on June 10, 1967.  They made their way back to Texas where they raised 2 sons.  In May of 1975, their family came full-circle with a final move, back to Georgann’s hometown of Groom to the Britten Homeplace where she lived as a child…and continued to reside until her death.   Georgann left behind a legacy of love and commitment as she and Bill celebrated 50 years of marriage.  She developed a love for cooking from her mother and used her talents to serve others... from countless years of concession stands and holiday gatherings, to brightening the day of friends and family with her "famous" cinnamon rolls.  She was a devoted wife, mother and GiGi.  In their early years, family time was spent camping and fishing, exploring the great outdoors with their sons. Her joy in later years was spending time with her precious grandchildren. Family was her greatest blessing.  It was her devotion to family and faith that will leave a lasting legacy on the hearts of those who loved her.

Left to cherish Georgann’s memory are her husband, Bill Hinson, of Groom; two sons, David Hinson and wife, Maria; Daniel Hinson and wife, Melanie, all of Groom; grandchildren, Tucker Hinson, Nate Hinson, Landree Hinson, and Trace Parker, all of Groom; sister, Mariellen Homfeld and husband, Jerry, of Adrian; sister-in-law, Loretta Britten of Groom; numerous cousins, nieces and nephews, extended family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Leo and Marietta Britten; a sister, Carey Bichsel;  two brothers, Amos Britten, and Lynn Britten.

The family suggests that memorials in Georgann’s name be made to:  Immaculate Heart of Mary Building Fund,  P.O. Box 130, Groom, TX  79039. Online condolences may be shared at www.schoolerfuneralhome.com
