Georgia Marie Haney

October 29, 1934 — November 23, 2020

Georgia Marie Haney passed away peacefully in her sleep on November 23, 2020.

Georgia was born October 29, 1934 to Millard and Sarah Murphy on their small farm in Oklahoma. She was the youngest of six children: JT, Christine, June, Donald Gene and Sherman Morris. The family relocated to Vernon, Texas and while attending Vernon High School, Georgia met Ernest Glenn Haney.

On July 23rd, 1952, the couple was married and shortly thereafter, relocated to Dumas, Texas. Together, they had three children, Deborah, Darla, and Darren. They moved a few times between Amarillo, Texas and Elkhart, Kansas. They finally settled in Amarillo and Georgia began work as a unit clerk for Northwest Hospital. She maintained this position for 20 years.

Georgia was deeply committed to her family and she enjoyed hosting family dinners, especially for the holidays and sometimes, just because she wanted to fry chicken fried steak. These dinners were often memorable, especially Christmas Eve after the white elephant game became a tradition. There was always plenty of love and laughter when the whole family gathered. Georgia had a lifelong love for pets and after her retirement, her dogs brought both her and Glenn immense amounts of joy and happiness. In addition, after living in the high Plains for her entire life, Georgia developed a deep sense of appreciation for the Rocky Mountains; she and Glenn traveled to Red River and Chama, New Mexico numerous times. Georgia had a close cousin, Sandy Arnold, and the two loved to travel together to New Mexico and Eureka Springs, Arkansas.

Georgia is preceded in death by her husband, both parents and all her siblings.

She is survived by her three children, Deborah Peek & husband, Larry of Amarillo, Darla Miller & husband, Mike, also of Amarillo, and Darren, of Checotah, Oklahoma. She has five grandchildren, Sarah, Matthew, Brandon, Dustin, and Kallie as well as seven great-grandchildren.

The family would like to thank The Cottages for providing excellent and loving care for Georgia in her final years.
